Job Description: Retail Associate â Garden Center
We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our team of
Retail Associates at The Mill. As a Retail Associate, you will play a crucial
role in assisting customers with their purchases of feed, seed, plants, and
supplies for their farms, horses, livestock, pets, wildlife, lawns, and
gardens. This position includes a strong focus on our garden center, requiring
knowledge and care of plants, watering, pruning, and maintaining an inviting
outdoor space. The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service
skills, product knowledge, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced
environment.
Specific Duties:
Customer
Service: Assist customers both in-store and over the phone, providing
exceptional customer service and offering additional services and products
to enhance their experience and increase sales.
Plant
Care & Garden Center Maintenance: Water, prune, and maintain the
health and appearance of plants. Identify signs of disease, pests, or
stress and take appropriate action. Organize and display plants and
gardening supplies to create an engaging shopping experience.
Receiving
& Inventory Maintenance: Assist in receiving shipments of plants
and garden supplies, ensuring proper handling and stocking. Maintain store
inventory, including restocking shelves and organizing products as
directed.
Merchandising
& Store Presentation: Stock and maintain product displays in both
the retail and garden center areas, keeping them clean, organized, and
visually appealing. Reorganize displays as needed to optimize sales.
Sales
& Transactions: Process customer transactions on the point-of-sale
system, including handling money and providing change accurately.
Team
Collaboration: Work as part of a team to maintain store operations,
support fellow employees, and contribute to a positive work environment.
Safety
& Cleanliness: Help maintain a clean and safe store environment,
both indoors and outdoors, for customers and employees. Follow company
safety protocols when handling plants, tools, and supplies.
Product
Knowledge & Learning: Demonstrate a willingness to learn more
about The Millâs products and services, including plants, soil amendments,
fertilizers, and gardening best practices.
Professionalism
& Community Engagement: Represent the company positively at all
times. Participate in community activities or events as a representative
of The Mill when needed.
Social
Media Staff Feature & Collaboration: Retail staff may be featured
in social media posts or other marketing content to showcase their
expertise and highlight their role within the company.
Perform
other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
Ability
to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Basic
understanding of sales principles and customer service practices.
Ability
to read and accurately handle money.
Exemplary
communication skills.
Ability
to work as part of a team and take initiative independently.
Ability
to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
Preferred Experience:
Customer
service/retail experience.
Experience
or knowledge of agriculture, animal care, horticulture, or turf
maintenance.
Prior
experience working in a garden center, nursery, or greenhouse setting.
